CHCA on the Issues - Overview

Home care is an essential element of an integrated, client-centred health care system.

The home care sector has experienced enormous growth over the past 40 years.

One million Canadians receiving publicly funded home care services annually reflect a doubling of individuals served over the past 15 years and it is estimated that another 500,000 individuals are accessing home care services not funded by government.

Our approach to health and wellness will change dramatically over the next decade and the delivery of care will reflect where individuals have the greatest longitudinal interaction with the health system - in their communities through visits to their family doctors and management of their health conditions in their homes and communities.

The health policies we develop, the people we recruit and train and the support systems we build now will shape the health care landscape tomorrow.

On behalf of our membership, the Canadian Home Care Association tackles the key health care issues from a home care viewpoint and provides concrete ideas, recommendations and solutions for policy planners, administrators and service providers.
